Company History
Sadly, very little confirmed information exists regarding BSK jewelry.
The name BSK was created using the initials of the company owners: Benny Steinberg (B), Hyman Slovitt (S) and Abraham Kaslo (K). The official name of the company was B. Steinberg Kaslo Co. Inc.
Some sources state the company was formed sometime around 1950 in New York. The United States Trademark and Patent Office records indicate the mark BSK, as owned by B. Steinberg Kaslo Co. Inc., was first in use in 1957. The mark was filed with the USTPO on October 20, 1972. The New York State records show an initial filing date of July 1, 1969 for the company, B. Steinberg Kaslo Co. Inc.
Some sources state the company dissolved in the 1970s. Others say it was the 1980s. The New York State records show a dissolution date of December 23, 1992.
Therefore, it is most likely the time frame for BSK jewelry was 1950s to 1980s or approximately a 30-year range.
BSK Design
BSK jewelry was generally simple but well-made and was sold in department stores. They used materials such as enamel, rhinestones, and faux pearls set in brushed metal. It was an affordable brand and was popular in its day.
BSK created a line of My Fair Lady items which were sold in 1964 and 1965 while the Audrey Hepburn film was in theaters. The line included a keychain which was distributed during the premiere.
Collecting BSK
Typical BSK items are found priced in the $10 to $20 range but should be worth more based on the craftmanship. The My Fair Lady pieces are rare, so expect to pay a premium for those, even when not in very good condition. My Fair Lady pieces can fetch up to $100.
