Vendome

Company History

Vendome was the high-end label of Coro Jewelry from 1944 to 1979. Emmanuel Cohn and Carl Rosenberger founded Coro at the turn of the century in New York. In 1937, the company began using the Corocraft name for their higher end pieces. Later, Coro’s most luxurious pieces were branded Francois (1944 to 1960) or Vendome (1944 to 1979).  Other marks included Coro Pegasus and Coro Originals. In 1953, Vendome became an official subsidiary of Coro.

Vendome pieces were unique and high-quality. The name was borrowed from a Parisian center. The Place Vendôme was renowned for its fashionable and deluxe hotels, boutiques, and salons.  The name was meant to inspire feelings of luxury and splendor.

Designers used high quality Czech and Austrian Crystals, silver, vermeil and lucite. Helen Marion was chief designer beginning in the early 1960’s.

Coro and its subsidiaries were sold to Kidde Inc in 1970 and renamed Richton International Corporation. By 1979, Coro was bankrupt and ceased production.

Collecting Vendome

Vendome pieces are in great demand among collectors. The jewelry has a reputation for high quality construction and materials. Some jewelry enthusiasts believe the quality is so superior to the general Coro quality that they consider it an entirely separate company. For additional information, see our Coro entry here.
