Company History
Beatrix Jewelry has a simple history. In 1946 Rhode Island, Nat Sugarman founded Beatrix. Sugarman named the company after his sister.
The company’s manager was Leonard Mandell and he purchased Beatrix in 1965. After Mandell took charge, Beatrix began designing holiday pieces for another company, Treasure Masters. That second company purchased Beatrix jewelry in 1977. Mandell stayed on with Treasure Masters until his retirement in 1982. Treasure Masters ceased operations in 1983.
Collecting Beatrix Jewelry
Most Beatrix jewelry pieces are unmarked. The company didn’t begin consistently marking their jewelry until about 1975. When a piece was marked, it was marked with Beatrix or BJ.
Although Beatrix designed pieces for various holidays, their Christmas pieces are the most popular. This may be because these pieces are the ones marked with the Beatrix name.
Beatrix pieces are of average quality and although collectible, they don’t command a high price. Most pieces will fall in the $5 to $15 range. Of course, as with all jewelry, rarity and popularity increase value for collectors.
