History of Gerry’s Creations
The accepted history of Gerry’s Brooches is that Gerry’s Jewelry Company / Gerry’s Creations began with Geraldine Giles in approximately 1950. After the popularity of costume jewelry exploded, Giles began her company and this helped lead to a successful business. Gerry’s Creations is inactive as of 1996 and all their pieces are now vintage.
Collecting Gerry’s Brooches
For the brooch/ pin collector, Gerry’s offers an extensive selection. Generally, Gerry’s is known for Christmas brooches. Also popular are figural brooches with animals and/or flowers. In addition, Gerry’s created themed brooches, such as sports pins, which tend to be lesser known.
The vast majority of Gerry’s pins are marked on the back. In my experience, some are unmarked but are clearly part of Gerry’s collection. When in doubt, look at the style, finish and construction. Also, assure that the asking price is in line with the quality of the pin. This will avoid any possible disappointment in the future.
Gerry’s quality is of medium to lower value. Nevertheless, their popularity continues. These pieces are a good point of entry for beginner collectors. The price of Gerry’s pins should mostly fall below the $20.00 mark with the exception of Gerry’s rarer, better quality pins.
